This is a "loose" weekend that we did the last couple of years and enjoyed so much. You are invited to come, socialize and participate in ceremony with us.
The weekend is also the Southern Ute Bear Dance in Ignacio. This is open, and the tribe invites all people to attend.
On Saturday evening beginning at 7:00 p.m., we will do appropriate ceremony here at our home on the ranch. If someone asks for doctoring, then that is what we will do. In that case, all attendees are invited to sit in within the circle in support and prayer. If not doctoring, then we will do a drum ceremony that is appropriate for the attendees.
On Sunday morning we will have a sun-up men's sweat run by Karlos Baca. It is intended that the participants will enter the lodge prior to sun-up, but an exact time has not yet been set.
Later on Sunday, around 11:00 am, Nick will offer a teaching on sacred, ceremonial herbs. Those desiring will have the opportunity to collect cedar as part of these activities.
Around 5:00 pm, we will do a mixed (men and women) sweat lodge run by Nick.
Be sure to bring something for the potluck after any lodge you participate in and a towel. (You know, bring normal sweat lodge stuff.)
On Monday about noon, we'll go over and eat buffalo at the Bear Dance feast.
In between all that, you are invited to do whatever--hike around, sit on the edge of our canyon and visit the world, go to Bear Dance, visit with one-another, things like that.
If you like, you can bring your gear and camp outwe certainly have enough space. If you will be camping, bring whatever you will need to eat and sleep. You are welcome to use the bathroom in the house when a tree isn't enough.
If you are traveling here and do not wish to camp, Durango has lots of motels. Alternatively, the Durango Hometown Hostel is very reasonable.
If you are coming, please let us know.
